12th Edition of International SD Model United Nations 2025 Opens with the Theme ‘Sadr-e-Siyasat’

Today, the SD MUN Club inaugurated its much-anticipated 12th edition of the International SD Model United Nations (SD MUN) at GGDSD College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Digital Safety Club, featuring grandeur, intellect, and international participation. Themed ‘Sadr-e-Siyasat,’ this year’s MUN brings together the diplomatic might of around 200 participants, including delegates from Zimbabwe and Nepal, in a powerful simulation of global governance and democratic discourse.

The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished chief guests Ms. Shruti Arora (IPS), SHO Manimajra, and Mr. Darrin Farrant, Director of the United Nations Information Centre, New Delhi. In their addresses, both dignitaries lauded the platform for fostering global citizenship and cross-cultural dialogue. “In a world increasingly shaped by young voices and digital discourse, simulations like SD MUN empower students to become thoughtful leaders and responsible global citizens,” said Mr. Farrant in his online address.

Ms. Shruti Arora added, “The journey to the IPS instilled in me a deep respect for grit, discipline, and purpose—qualities I see reflected in the young delegates. True leadership begins with dialogue, and I applaud each of you for embracing these roles with such clarity and conviction.”

The event started with the green welcome of the Chief Guest IPS Shruti Arora by Dr. Monika Soni (Coordinator SD MUN Club) and Dr. Rupinder Aulakh (Coordinator Digital Safety Club), followed by the lamp lighting ceremony and felicitation of the Chief Guest. The event began with an enthusiastic cultural note, as students showcased their talents through Ganesh Vandana and a play on caste politics.

The first day of the international conference was declared open through the Gavel Ceremony. In this two-day conference, the SD MUN 2025 will host the following committees: Lok Sabha, United Nations General Assembly, Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), and the International Press. Each committee reflects pressing global and national issues, inviting rigorous debate, diplomacy, and resolution-building.

To further incentivize excellence, the winners across various categories will be awarded cash prizes exceeding ₹50,000, making SD MUN 2025 both intellectually stimulating and rewarding. As the gavel drops on the first session of committee debates, SD MUN 2025 embarks on a journey of spirited discourse, global solidarity, and youth-driven policy innovation.
